In continuing with the aviation blogs, I recently purchased a magic device for my aviation needs. I bought the new iPad (although not officially iPad 3, but that's what I call it). Yeah, I took another step toward the "dark side". In all honesty, I have been mulling over which tablet to get for some time now. There really wasn't the perfect tablet out there as I had some issues with both iPad and the Android tablets. But what really turned the tide was the aviation application that utilizes the iOS software. Powerful!!
So, the new iPad combined with
Foreflight makes for an amazing navigation tool. This app allows you to download all the navigation information (maps, airport directories, weather information, etc). Then at the touch of a finger, you can recall any of that information that you need. The program allows you to plan cross country flights and you can even see where you are on the map (it's a moving map). That's pretty cool. That beats unfolding and rotating maps to find your location. I'm excited to test out this combo in the air! It's pretty powerful and I haven't even learned all the tricks of this amazing program. I'll report on how it works in the air.
Oh, and the new iPad is pretty amazing too. It's a little heavier than I'd like it and it still doesn't use Flash (but that issue will probably dissolve over time as websites go over to HTML5.) I'm pretty pleased at this point. One of the best birthday presents I have ever bought myself.
